TODAY, FORTUNATELY, WE ARE ABLE TO SERVE 22,000 KIDS ACROSS EASTERN FLORIDA.
WE'RE IN DUVAL COUNTY, PALM BEACH COUNTY, AND NOW TODAY IN TAMARAC IN BROWARD.
WE OPENED OUR LOCATION IN MIDWAY PLAZA IN SEPTEMBER.
WE'VE SERVED ABOUT ALMOST 300 KIDS TO DATE, WHICH WE'RE VERY PROUD OF IN THIS SHORT PERIOD OF TIME.
AND I JUST WANTED TO SHARE THAT WE SELECTED MIDWAY PLAZA VERY INTENTIONALLY.
IT'S A PLAZA THAT HAS A LOT OF ACTIVITY. THERE'S A LARGE PUBLIX.
THERE'S MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF RETAIL CENTERS, FOOD AND SHOPPING STORES.
AND THE GOAL FOR US IS TO MAKE CARE VERY CONVENIENT FOR FAMILIES.
PERHAPS THEY'RE SHOPPING OR GETTING A BITE TO EAT AND SEE US.
THE LAST THING I'LL JUST MENTION, AND THE REASON THAT ACCESS IS SOMETHING I'M GOING TO TALK A LOT ABOUT, IS THAT KIDS ON MEDICAID USE THE EMERGENCY ROOM AT 6 TO 7 TIMES THE RATE OF KIDS IN A COMMERCIALLY INSURED HEALTH PLAN.
AND THAT'S OFTEN BECAUSE THERE MAY NOT BE A PROVIDER NEAR THEM.
IT MAY BE THAT FAMILIES DON'T KNOW THAT YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO GO TO A PEDIATRICIAN ON A REGULAR BASIS.
THEY KNOW THAT THE EMERGENCY ROOM IS OPEN ALL THE TIME, AND IT'S A PLACE TO GET CARE.
BUT REALLY, THAT'S FOR THE MOST SERIOUS OF SITUATIONS.
WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT FAMILIES KNOW THAT WE'RE HERE IF THEIR CHILD IS HAVING TROUBLE BREATHING.
IT'S THE RIGHT PLACE TO RECEIVE A DIAGNOSIS OF ASTHMA AND LEARN HOW TO USE AN INHALER.
IT'S THE RIGHT PLACE TO GET DIAGNOSED WITH ADHD AND GET PUT ONTO AN APPROPRIATE CARE PLAN.
THEY GROW UP TO HAVE MORE PRODUCTIVE JOBS. THEY EARN MORE, AND THEY WILL CONTRIBUTE TO YOUR COMMUNITY, TO OUR COMMUNITY FOR MANY, MANY YEARS TO COME.

AND BECAUSE OF THESE SPECIAL CONDITIONS, THE STRICT APPLICATION OF THE ONE FACADE SIGN DEPRIVES US OF THE USUAL CANDIDLY PATIENTS AND FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO WOULD BE USING THE PRACTICE OF THE USUAL VISIBILITY AND WAYFINDING BENEFITS OF THE FACADE SIGN, WHERE THEY WOULD ACTUALLY PARK AND ENTER THE FACILITY.
WE DON'T BELIEVE THAT GRANTING THIS VARIANCE WOULD CONFER A SPECIAL PRIVILEGE.

THANK YOU, MADAM CHAIR. JUST WANT TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE ON THE ITEMS THAT WERE CONSIDERED BY THIS BOARD AT YOUR OCTOBER MEETING.THE FIRST ITEM YOU CONSIDERED WAS THE IMPACT FEE ORDINANCE.
AS YOU RECALL, THAT WOULD BE INCREASING THE CURRENT IMPACT FEE BY 25%.
THOSE FEES WOULD BE APPLIED TO NEW DEVELOPMENTS.
SO THEY ARE PAYING THEIR PROPORTIONATE FAIR SHARE OF THEIR IMPACTS ON THE CITY'S INFRASTRUCTURE.
THAT ITEM WAS CONSIDERED BY THE CITY COMMISSION AND IT WAS APPROVED.
THE SECOND ITEM IS THE LIVE LOCAL ACT ITEM. THIS IS ON THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING THAT THE STATE HAS MANDATED THAT THE CITY SHOULD ADOPT GUIDELINES RELATIVE TO HOW THOSE PROJECTS ARE IMPLEMENTED IN THE CITY.

FINALLY THE BOARD ORDER FOR THE WOODLANDS DEVELOPMENT.AS YOU RECALL, THEY WERE BACK BEFORE THIS BODY TO CONSIDER SOME ADDITIONAL ELEVATIONS OR MODELS.
AND THERE'S A LOT COVERAGE VARIANCE THAT WAS ASKED FOR.
THIS BODY HAD FOUR PEOPLE AT THE TIME. AND SO TWO VOTED IN FAVOR AND TWO VOTED AGAINST.
DO YOU KNOW WHAT WAS THE VOTE? I MEAN, HOW MANY AGAINST? THEY ALL VOTED NO. OKAY. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE MAYOR.
AS YOU RECALL, WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF UPDATING OUR COMP PLAN.
IT WAS TRANSMITTED TO THE STATE AND ALL THE REVIEWING AGENCIES.
WE RECEIVED OUR COMMENTS BACK. THE BIGGEST COMMENT IS DURING THE TIME WE TRANSIT TRANSMITTED OUR PLAN, THE STATE CHANGE, THE PLANNING HORIZON. IT'S NO LONGER TEN YEARS.
IT'S NOW 20 YEARS. SO THE PLAN HAS BEEN CHANGED TO THE CITY OF TAMARAC 2050 COMPREHENSIVE PLAN.
AND BY DOING THAT OR CONSULTING HAD TO UPDATE THE ENTIRE PLAN, THE DATA AND ANALYSIS, POPULATION PROJECTION, EVERYTHING WAS OUT OF LINE SINCE WE WERE PLANNING FOR A TEN YEAR HORIZON.
IT'S NOW A 20 YEAR HORIZON, SO THAT PLAN IS BACK TO THE CITY.
IT'S BEEN ADVERTISED. IF YOU'VE SEEN IT IN THE NEWSPAPER, AND THE CITY COMMISSION WILL CONSIDER IT FOR ADOPTION AT THE NOVEMBER 12TH MEETING AS WELL. THERE'S NO REQUIREMENT FOR IT TO COME BACK BEFORE YOU, WHICH IS WHY YOU'RE NOT SEEING IT.
BUT I KNOW THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO YOU BECAUSE WE TOOK SOME TIME TO CONSIDER IT.
