I THINK EVERYBODY HAS BEEN ON THIS BOARD FOR A WHILE, SO MAY HAVE SEEN THIS COME THROUGH BACK IN JANUARY OR FEBRUARY OF LAST YEAR FOR THE SITE PLAN, BUT THE PROPERTY IS LOCATED ON THE NORTH EAST CORNER OF UNIVERSITY DRIVE AND COMMERCIAL BOULEVARD IN THE CITY OF TAMARAC. IT'S JUST OVER 1.2 ACRES IN SIZE AND WAS PREVIOUSLY A BANK WITH A DRIVE THROUGH. BACK IN JANUARY OR FEBRUARY OF LAST YEAR, THE CITY COMMISSION APPROVED THE RAISING CANE'S PROJECT FOR A ROUGHLY 3000 SQUARE FOOT BUILDING WITH A DRIVE THROUGH.

AND THERE YOU GO. JANUARY 10TH IS THE EXACT DATE.

SO THE SITE PLAN WAS PREVIOUSLY APPROVED. IT'S BEEN GOING THROUGH PERMITTING AND IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION.

AND RAISING CANE'S HAS BEEN FOCUSING ON THEIR SIGNAGE OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS.

AND HAVE RUN INTO A COUPLE ISSUES WITH THE REGULATIONS AS IT RELATES TO THEIR TRADEMARK LOGO SIGNAGE.

AND THAT'S WHY WE'RE HERE TODAY. SO, WE HAVE TWO VARIANTS REQUESTS.

THE FIRST IS LDR SECTION 10 .4-.10E2A AND TABLE 10- 4.12, WHICH SPEAKS TO THE MAXIMUM GRAPHIC HEIGHT. AND SPECIFICALLY WE'RE REFERRING TO KIND OF EACH OF THE LETTERS.

AND AS YOU'LL SEE AS WE GO FORWARD, RAISING CANE'S, THEIR TRADEMARK LOGO HAS A LARGER C.

IT MAKES IT MORE PROMINENT. AND THAT'S WHERE WE'RE SEEKING SOME ADDITIONAL ALLOWANCE TO MAKE THAT, TO ALLOW THAT C TO BE BIGGER. AND THEN A VARIANCE FROM SECTION 10 .4.10E TO2B7 TO ALLOW THREE LINES OF COPY WHERE YOU HAVE TWO. AND AGAIN, THAT'S BECAUSE OF THE TRADEMARKED SIGNAGE FOR RAISING CANE'S.

SO THIS IS THE SITE PLAN THAT'S ON YOUR SCREEN AND WHERE YOU HAVE A1, A2 AND A3 THAT DEPICTS THE LOCATION OF THE SIGNS THAT WE'RE DISCUSSING TODAY.

SO SPECIFICALLY, THEY ARE THE WALL SIGNS THAT ARE LOCATED ON THE BUILDING FACADE.

SO YOU HAVE ONE SIGN AT EACH STREET, SO ONE OFF COMMERCIAL BOULEVARD, ONE FACING UNIVERSITY DRIVE, AND ONE FACING 57TH STREET. SO HERE YOU CAN SEE THE SIGNAGE THAT'S BEING PROPOSED.

ESSENTIALLY THE RAISING CANE'S TRADEMARKED SIGNAGE.

AND THE FIRST VARIANCE AGAIN RELATES TO THE MAXIMUM CHARACTER AND GRAPHIC HEIGHT.

AND SO YOU CAN SEE IN THE PROPOSED SIGN HOW THE C IN THE RAISING CANE'S SIGN, THEIR GRAPHIC LOGO IS LARGER THAN THE OTHER LETTERS. IT'S MORE PROMINENT. IT'S INTENDED TO STAND OUT AS PART OF THEIR BRAND.

AND SO WHEN WE'RE TALKING ABOUT THE MAXIMUM GRAPHIC HEIGHT, WE'RE LOOKING AT THE BIGGEST LETTER ON THE, ON THE SIGN. THE OTHER LETTERS ARE SMALLER AND WOULD MEET THE REQUIREMENT.

BUT BECAUSE THAT C IS SO LARGE, THAT'S WHAT'S NECESSITATING THE VARIANCE.

AND SO THE SIGN REGULATIONS DIFFER DEPENDING ON THE WIDTH OF THE RIGHT OF WAY THAT'S

SO THEY ALLOW A LARGER C 57TH IS A LITTLE BIT SMALLER OF A RIGHT OF WAY.

SO IT'S GOT A DIFFERENT DIMENSION. SO I HAVE EACH GRAPHIC PULLED UP.

SO ALONG COMMERCIAL BOULEVARD 28IN IS PERMITTED FOR THE MAXIMUM LETTER.

THIS IS AGAIN KIND OF THE MAIN ENTRANCE. IT'S ALONG COMMERCIAL BOULEVARD, A MAJOR THOROUGHFARE.

SO, YOU KNOW, YOU NEED A LARGE SIGN THAT CAN BE NOTICEABLE THERE.

AGAIN, DESIGN OTHERWISE MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE CODE, EXCEPT THAT C IS LARGER THAN IS PERMITTED, SO WE'RE REQUESTING 41.5FT IN LIEU OF 28 PERMITTED ON THIS FACADE.

AND SO HERE YOU HAVE IT KIND OF IN PERSPECTIVE AS TO WHAT IT WOULD LOOK LIKE.

AND AGAIN, FROM THESE ADJACENT ROADWAYS, YOU WANT TO BE ABLE TO READ THE REMAINDER OF THE SIGN AS WELL.

YOU HAVE THE RAISING. YOU HAVE THE CHICKEN FINGERS.

THOSE WORDS ARE SMALLER. SO YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT IT'S STILL LEGIBLE.

AND PEOPLE CAN IDENTIFY THE LOCATION AND THE NATURE OF THE BUSINESS.

BUT YOU CAN SEE IT'S VERY PROPORTIONATE TO THE BUILDING.

IT'S IT'S NOT, YOU KNOW, AN EXCESSIVE SIGN OTHERWISE.

THIS SIGN IS SPECIFIC TO THE WEST ELEVATION THAT'S FRONTING UNIVERSITY DRIVE.

AND UNIVERSITY DRIVE IS A LITTLE BIT UNUSUAL IN THIS SITUATION BECAUSE THERE IS ACTUALLY A SIGNIFICANT, I THINK IT'S 100 FOOT EASEMENT FOR FDOT THAT WAS REQUIRED BY FDOT IN THE COUNTY.

FOR FUTURE ROADWAY EXPANSIONS. SO THAT'S A LARGE GREEN AREA NOW THAT'S PLANTED WITH TREES.

SO THE BUILDING IS SIGNIFICANTLY SET BACK IN THIS INSTANCE.

SO YOU REALLY WANT TO ENSURE THERE'S ADEQUATE VISIBILITY FROM THE ROADWAY BECAUSE IT IS SUCH A DISTANCE FROM WHERE THE BUILDING IS SITUATED.

IN THIS INSTANCE, THE MAXIMUM GRAPHIC HEIGHT PERMITTED IS 30IN.

AND WE'RE SEEKING JUST A LITTLE BIT OVER THAT AT 31.25IN AGAIN FOR THE LETTER C.

AND HERE'S THE PROPOSED SIGN ON THAT ELEVATION.

AGAIN, TO PUT THINGS INTO PERSPECTIVE, IT'S VERY PROPORTIONATE WITH THE BUILDING.

THESE GOODWILL SUPERSTORES ARE AKIN TO YOUR ROSS OR TJ MAXX, BUT BECAUSE OF GOODWILL'S MISSION AND BECAUSE THE GOODS THAT THEY SELL ARE USED GOODS, THEY ARE CATEGORIZED DIFFERENTLY THAN YOUR STANDARD RETAIL OPERATION, WHICH REQUIRES US TO COME BEFORE YOU AND THE CITY COMMISSION FOR A SPECIAL EXCEPTION. BEFORE I GET STARTED ON THE APPLICATION SPECIFICS, I JUST WANT TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT GOODWILL BECAUSE I THINK IT'S SUPER IMPORTANT ABOUT WHO THEY ARE AND WHAT THEIR MISSION IS.

AND YOU CAN SEE THEY HAVE SIX PRIMARY BUSINESSES THAT THEY OPERATE, INCLUDING THE GOODWILL SUPERSTORES, WHICH IS UP AT THE TOP LEFT OF YOUR SCREEN RIGHT NOW THAT EMPLOYS OVER 1200 INDIVIDUALS AND ACROSS ALL OF THEIR BUSINESSES. GOODWILL, ACTUALLY. GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF SOUTH FLORIDA EMPLOYS 3000 INDIVIDUALS, WHICH IS MAKES IT THE 18TH LARGEST EMPLOYER IN SOUTH FLORIDA, WHICH I JUST THINK IS REMARKABLE.

SO THESE GOODWILL SUPERSTORES, ESSENTIALLY IN PART, THEY SERVE THE MISSION BY CREATING JOBS FOR FOLKS WITH DISABILITIES AND BARRIERS TO EMPLOYMENT. BUT THEY ALSO IMPORTANTLY, FUND THE MISSION SERVICES SIDE OF THEIR OPERATION.

THE REVENUES FROM THE SUPERSTORES HELP ENABLE THEM TO SERVE THESE FOLKS WITH DISABILITIES AND GIVE THEM JOBS, OR GIVE THEM THE JOB TRAINING TO GET THEM BACK IN THE WORKFORCE, GIVE THEM PURPOSE AND THE ABILITY TO KIND OF BE INDEPENDENT.

ANOTHER THING THAT I WANT TO POINT OUT THAT'S ON THIS SLIDE, THAT'S SUPER INTERESTING IS BECAUSE OF THEIR WORK AND THE RECYCLING, IF YOU WILL, OF ALL THESE, THESE GARMENTS I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE MM STANDS FOR, BUT IT'S BUT IT'S MILLIONS OF SOMETHING.

THEY SAVE LOTS AND LOTS OF MATERIALS FROM OTHERWISE GOING INTO LANDFILLS THROUGH THESE, THROUGH THEIR OPERATIONS.

AND THEY'VE EVEN TAKEN THAT A STEP FURTHER, BEING A GREEN, FUTURE FOCUSED COMPANY IS A HUGE PRIORITY OF GOODWILL'S.

AND THEY'RE ALSO PILOTING HOW THEY CAN BE MORE INVOLVED IN THE RECYCLING SPACE TO MAKE SURE THAT WE KEEP BASICALLY GARMENTS OUT OF LANDFILLS AND ARE ABLE TO, YOU KNOW, THEY CAN CONTINUE TO RECYCLE THESE THINGS AND, YOU KNOW, MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE BECAUSE OF IT. SO BACK TO OUR APPLICATION.
